Rough sleeping includes all kinds of living without access to conventional dwellings such as sleeping in cars, derelict buildings, on the streets, in tents, doorways, parks, bus shelters tents, in open spaces, and other types of improvised shelter.
There are also households who are cold in their own homes in winter. The daily struggle is real with questions asked
‘today what can I afford – do I heat or do I eat’?
These Thermal Survival Blankets are proven to make a difference.
A blanket made from chip packets can protect sleeping bags for weeks in cold and wet weather, reflecting the heat, keeping individuals dry, and helping to reduce the amount of single-use plastic going to landfill.

Being involved with Chip Packet Project Melbourne
Helps The Environment – rethinking foil as a reusable resource and saving years in landfill. Every foil lined packet that goes into the bin can take up to 80yrs to decompose – that’s shocking! By rethinking foil as a reusable resource, it can be transformed by a team of volunteers to make amazing thermal products (like survivial blankets) that may help protect a life.
Helps Those In Need – There are people who are living in tough situations across Melbourne. Our thermal survival blankets offer those in need a warm nights sleep
Brings People Together – Individuals from all different walks of life can gather together at our Fusion Events to help make and create items with foil, which in turn helps combat loneliness and gives life purpose – sensational!
How You Can Help
CLEAN CHIP PACKETS NEEDED
Please donate clean chip packets. Wash with warm soap water & dry them & bring them to the Community House. You will be helping multiple causes – it takes 80 years for foil to breakdown in landfills so instead of your foil rubbish going to the already overflowing landfills, it will be helping those who need warm blankets, & you still get to enjoy your chippies without it costing you any extra money to help those in need!
Volunteer
Be part of a Foil Fusion Event. This is where all the packets are fused together and backed to make a fully usable blanket. Whether you’re a school, business or community group – contact us to help turn chip packets into blankets. It’s a great opportunity to be involved in a community project to support those in need. From collecting foil to following the process through to making a full survival sheet – there are lots of ways to be involved. Get in touch today.
